- Native American Visual Artists and Writers Fellowship for Fall 2026
Description
We are in full swing of accepting applications for the Ucross Fellowship for Native American Visual Artists and Writers for Fall 2026. We welcome Native American artists and writers at all stages of their careers to apply.
As many of you may know, fellows are offered a four-week residency (which includes uninterrupted time, private studio space, lodging, meals by a professional chef and staff support on our beautiful 20,000-acre ranch in Wyoming), an award of $2,000, and the opportunity to present work publicly (in the Ucross Art Gallery, at a public reading/event, etc.). Past fellows include acclaimed visual artist Teresa Baker (Mandan/Hidatsa), Mikayla Patton (Oglala Lakota), Steven J. Yazzie (Diné/Pueblo of Laguna), poet M.L. Smoker (Nakoda - Dakota - Lakota), author Kelli Jo Ford (Cherokee Nation) and author Brandon Hobson (Cherokee - Aniyunwiya - Nation).
“Ucross will burrow into your soul and remain there for a very long time," fiction writer Stacie Denetsosie (Diné) told us after her residency. "The fields, the wildlife, the magic in the studios, were so beautiful. Please cherish every minute of it.”
