Pay Range: $27.60 - $28.75 per hour. Your hourly rate will be based on level of education completed.

Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario and its goal is to create a transportation network that enhances the prosperity, sustainability and quality of life for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. It leads the planning in the region with its Regional Transportation Plan that guides the work and investments of the organization. It builds light transit, bus rapid transit and Regional Express Rail and operates GO Transit, UP Express and PRESTO.
The Metrolinx Intern Program is designed to offer new graduates the opportunity to gain valuable experience by working on projects that guide us forward through our collaborative, inclusive work environment. Upon successful completion of the program, there is the opportunity to be offered a permanent placement.
Our Capital Projects group is looking for an interns to join their GO Expansion, Early Works team to assist with the project delivery, engineering and design of Metrolinx's capital projects. Working with the project delivery team, interns will help coordinate projects through all stages of design and construction regarding function, quality, budget, schedule and approvals with external authorities and team members.
What will I be doing?
- Administering consulting agreements and construction contracts for the maintenance, rehabilitation and expansion of Metrolinx's network and infrastructure.
- Identifying and recommending physical infrastructure projects for rehabilitation of Metrolinx facilities and coordinating the implementation of approved projects.
- Forecasting, monitors and reports all capital project expenditures such as consultant fees, purchase orders, construction contracts and change orders.
- Coordinating engineering consultant services for building infrastructure projects for new construction and upgrades to Railway, Stations, Parking, Structures, Track and Signal infrastructure.
- Ensuring compliance with Metrolinx standards, Provincial Legislation, regulated railway standards, Transport Canada regulations, design code practices, applicable safety legislation, and partner requirements.
- Preparing, coordinating and submits specifications for construction and consultant contracts for tendering and procurement of design and construction services.
- Ensuring project documentation is tracked and updated; works in project management, digital file management, and construction scheduling software environments.
- Performing site audits to ensure contractors and consultants are working in compliance with their contracts with an emphasis on maintaining a safe working environment.
- Ensuring commissioning and acceptance of completed smaller-scale projects for hand over to our clients.
- Preparing performance evaluations for consultants and contractors, and project post-evaluation reports including project cost analyses and lessons learned.
Requirements
- Completed undergraduate or graduate degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Architecture, Public Policy or any combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent required;
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
- Organizational and time-management skills
- Knowledge of the following is considered an asset:
o Railway operations, including signaling and communications
o On-site construction
o Transportation engineering
o Project management - Competence in software such as Microsoft Office, MS Project, Primavera software, AutoCAD/AutoTURN, MicroStation and GIS is considered an asset;
- You must reside and be available in the Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area for a June 7th, 2021 start date.
